'FLY AND SURVIVE' CAMPING AND FISHING
Those anglers who prefer to fish for the whole holiday, day and night only need a fishing license and permission to camp which we can provide. For this we merely need a copy of your passport one week in advance of your trip in order to arrange your license. Obviously these anglers will need to bring their own food, bait and equipment and organize their own transport to the lake. Items of tackle and bait can be ordered from us in advance of the trip through this site. Transport from the airport to the lake can also be arranged but a hire car is highly recommended.
Almost if not all the lakes on the Canary Islands are government owned this includes a narrow strip of land along their perimeters regardless of the water level. During the day your license entitles you to fish any lake in the Canary Islands provided you do not cross private land without permission to gain access. Camping and therefore night fishing is only possible with the landowners permission. We at Amigos de la Carpa own a large stretch of the near bank on which we can provide camping for 5€ per night. This allows you to night fish with no risk of being moved on by the authorities.
Fires are not encouraged anywhere on the island
due to the obvious risk of bush fires in the dry environment. Recently in the
aftermath of the forest fires in Spain and Portugal over the summer of 2005
all fires have been banned in the mountains until December If you intend to
camp and cook by the lake you will need to take this into consideration. By
far the best solution to cooking by the lake is to bring a gas burner or even
buy one here as they are cheap and bottled gas in all shapes and sizes are widely
available on the island. Added to this when there is a fire in the mountains
helicopters fly down and scoop up great sacks of water from the lake to put
it out. Water is scarce and fires are dangerous, destructive and affect my fishing
so please take care.
