DEC 04 - FEB 05

Up until the middle of December though the weather was cold, the fishing was still good until the rains came and water rushed into the lake. The water temperature dropped, the whole lake turned reddish brown and fishing suddenly became really hard with people blanking like people who don't catch fish. On the bright side though the lake had started filling up almost up to the level it was at Easter.

In January the rain and cold weather put the fish off their food somewhat. The wild weather continued into February with snow in the high mountain tops, winds from the Sahara carrying so much dust they blotted out the sky and more rain, much more rain. Despite all this we were still managing to catch some fish and the 30s were coming out at last, notably fish of 33lb, 34lb, and a 37lb 9oz fish caught by my friend Kenny. The winter of 2004-05 was the wettest in years and filled the island's reservoirs in many cases to overflowing. Chira got to within 12 feet of the top of the wall a rise of about 30 feet! More water means more food, which means bigger fish, mmm roll on summer...
