JUN 2005 - AUG 2005

Summer is always a hot affair in the Canary Islands, this one being no exception. The fishing was best just as the sun was going down through til dawn. Fish were being caught in the days with some big bags of 6 or 7 fish weighing in at nearly 150lb, but equally there were blank days as well. With the weather being so seemingly constant it is difficult to say what triggers these daytime feeds in the summer. When things were slow in the days, I started moving away from my usual tactic of fishing in the shallower margins to casting out towards the middle of the lake where fish were crashing out over 30 to 40 feet of water. I fished over spodded particle with some good fish taken when the margins weren't producing the goods.

During the summer as the water warmed up it seemed that the fish moved away from the shallower top of the lake where huge numbers of fish were being observed in spring around spawning time. This has led to a more even distribution of fish around the lake but the sharp rise in the water level has thinned the fish out making the lake a harder place to fish but the chance of a 30lb+ fish being caught has definitely been improved.
